This is an ongoing ethnographic research project investigating the ways we make and create with our hands. Thinking about the emergence of digital creative tools, I want to see how tracking hands could help inform the development of new making tools with greater interplay between digital and physical.
During the Work in Progress show at the Royal College of Art, the visitors were asked to create face sculptures, while allowing the sensor to track their movement. As one proceeded to mould the clay, their movement was visualised in trails which were later turned into 3D models. The interactions resulted in a collection of faces and screen recordings of visitors’ making methods.
